We all have some affinity towards some specific aromas and the fragrances. Do you like the smell of the petrol? Or do you find the smell of the wet sand, while it rains, enchanting?
There are many smells which may attract you and make your brain feel soothing. But, here we are talking about the perfumes.
Many people who are socially very active want to look at their best in front of others. They want to represent themselves according to certain “standards”, which are high enough to make the people swoon.
Body odour affects the way you present yourself. If you look at your best, but you smell quite awkward, then your whole grooming goes in vain. Perfumes act as cherry on top of the cake.
Perfumes are liquids made of certain specific aromatic oils and solvents, which give you a pleasant smell. Spray a little and spread the fragrance all around you. The finishing touch to your complete makeover is given by the perfume. You must be amazed to know that about 87% of the people worldwide do not leave their homes for work or any other event without spraying a perfume.
Who does not love the pleasant smells? Want to know more? Read along.
Women’s perfume vs. men’s perfume
There is a clear distinction between women’s perfume and men’s perfume when you smell them. You’ll come to know what is more “dude-like” and what is more “lady-like”. When you go to buy a suitable perfume, what you first look at is whether it is men’s or the women’s. Women do not explore men’s perfume, and men do not explore women’s. Why? Because they are different!
What exactly is the difference? It is all about the smell and the intensity!
- Women’s perfumes are usually floral or fruity. This is because women are fond of such smells. On the contrary, men’s perfumes are woody and musky. They give a strong fresh feeling.
- Women scents are light and sweet, whereas men scents are strong, leather-like, fresh and earthy.
Actually, there is no characteristic difference between both the gender perfumes. Mostly, it is the marketing strategy, to attract huge crowd and increase specificity. Women and men have their own choices regarding smells they wish to possess and thus the difference exists.
If we talk about the packaging differences, then you must be aware that men’s perfumes have a very masculine packaging. They are less illustrative and harder in appearance. Whereas, female perfumes have fancy packaging with flowers and glitters, and the waves with attractive shapes.
If we talk about the lasting effect of fragrances, then surveys reveal that men’s perfumes last longer than that of women.
And the names of course! The women perfumes have fancy names as well. The taglines are lady-like and attract ladies very well. Men’s perfumes have “classic” names.
Types of women’s perfume
The variety of perfumes is wide and exclusive. They vary on the basis of smell and the concentrations. You can find the details at the pack of your perfume bottle. The perfumes which have more oils and less solvent concentration have high fragrance.
On the basis of concentration, perfumes are classified under 5 categories:
- Parfum
This is the purest form of perfume and has the highest fragrance. The fragrance content ranges from 15-40%. This makes them last long, that is up to 8 hours and more. Since they are high in fragrance concentration, they are costlier than the rest of the types. Also, due to low alcohol content, they are good for skin as they do not make it dry.
- Eau de Parfum
This comes next, beneath the Parfum. The concentration of fragrance is 15-20% and it will last for about 5 hours. It is less expensive than the Parfum. People use this type in their daily lives.
- Eau de Toilette
The fragrance concentration is 5-15%. It is cheaper than the former. The fragrance lasts for about 2 hours and is common in daily life use.
- Eau de Cologne
The fragrance concentration is very less, i.e. 2-4%. This has very high alcohol content. It is not expensive and the fragrance lasts for less than two hours. Usually, herbs and fruity oils are used as base.
- Eau Fraiche
This has even lower concentration of fragrance, i.e. 1-3%. The smell lasts up to 2 hours, synonymous to Cologne. The key point here is that it does not have high alcohol content even though it has low fragrance concentration. The solvent used is water.
And, if you wish to classify the perfumes on the basis of the type of fragrance, then look down:
- Floral Fragrance
These contain the smell of the flowers. The most popular scents are of rose, lavender and gardenia. The perfumes might also be made by combining multiple flower varieties. Such scents are lady-like, and women love them!
- Oriental Fragrance
These include the musk smells and essence of vanilla, cinnamon and cloves. The fragrance is light and oriental.
- Chypre
Such smells are related to earth and more woody. Moss and oak essences are dominant.
- Green
This scent smells of fresh green leaves and cold feeling. When you smell such perfumes, you just have the feeling of being surrounded by lush green grass and open space, where fresh breezes come across your face. Sounds like a TV commercial? Oh, yes!
- Fougere
In this scent, the fragrance is strong. Essence might be of moss, oak or herbs.
- Oceanic
The elements of seas and oceans are found in this fragrance. This is a mixture of spice and citrus compounds.
- Wood
This scent gives fragrance of woody forest and you can smell of pine, sandalwood and other woody trees. The fragrance is light and musky.
Are you able to distinguish now?
