Early signs of pregnancy
Early signs of pregnancy are obviously the signs noticed at the beginning. There are certain signs and symptoms which occur at the initial time period.
These signs will tell you that you are pregnant, and now you are going to add a new member to your family. Excited for what is going to come? Time for some preparation and doctor visit!
Our body is a vast system where every biological mechanism is interlinked with the others. Many processes occur simultaneously. They are indicative of the end of one process and beginning of the other. Pregnancy is an event which is marked by the arousal of many signs and symptoms.
Symptoms can occur as early as in a few weeks or as late as in a few months. As we know pregnancy varies from woman to woman, the symptoms may arise with variations.
First signs of pregnancy
The first signs of pregnancy are common and well known by many of the people. Yet, for the new moms, we have a whole lot of information and guidelines. Have a look below:
- Missed Period:
It is the most common alert of the upcoming baby. Missed period is because fertilisation in your body has occurred, i.e., the egg has already fused with the sperm. And now, it is progressing towards becoming an embryo.
- Frequent Urination:
The urge to pee and rush to the loo is quite frequent in pregnancy. Hence, it can be taken as an indicative.
- Heightened sense of smell:
You have ultimate smelling superpowers at this stage. You can smell any minor smell, and dislike even the most fragrant objects. Women generally develop nausea from smells of things which never had any effect on them before. The aroma may disturb them and make them feel irritated. The stage becomes intolerable for some.
- Changes in choice of food:
Pregnant women have the urge to eat something different to suit their “mood”. As you see in the movies that the pregnant lady urges her husband to bring her ice-cream at 2 am, this is the case in real life too. It makes hard for the family members to cope with the pregnant woman’s demand. So, keep your kitchen stock updated, as you never know what has been ordered at what time.
But, one important thing has to be noted for the above signs:
- The missed period can also occur due to hormonal imbalance or excess of stress and tiredness. As a result, sometimes you cannot take it as an early sign of pregnancy.
- The frequent urination can also occur due to Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). It is necessary to get a check up before you jump on to a conclusion.
There is nothing to be scared off. Just be sure about your health. We care for you.
Signs of pregnancy before missed period
As the missed period is indicative of pregnancy, there are certain signs and symptoms as well which occur prior to it. This informs you of your pregnancy beforehand.
- Physical changes:
The body of the pregnant women starts undergoing a number of physical and physiological changes, just after the conception. Although these changes take their own time to get expressed.
The breasts become swollen and tender. Slight pain can be felt when touched. The areolas darken as early as a week or a two after conception. The nipples become sore.
The lower abdomen, hips and legs (specifically the inner thigh region) aches.
- Morning sickness:
The feeling of nausea and vomit takes control of the whole body. The weakness and tiredness are the side consequences which come in addition.
- Stomach cramps
- Constipation and Bloating
- Mucus discharge:
There is a thick cervical mucus discharge, which is much more than the normal “usual” discharge experienced by many women. This may cause itching in the private regions.
- Sleeplessness and sometimes tiredness:
The whole energy of the body is utilised regularly in carrying out the process of fertilisation and embryo development. Thus, even a slight manual work can make you tired and restless. Also, it may be hard to sleep at night due to stress and brainstorm activities going on in the tiny mind.
- Changes in skin texture:
Change in texture doesn’t mean you will get woody rings all over your hand or the wrinkles before aging. There may be simple skin outgrowths such as acne or pimples, which may arise due to hormonal changes. Keep calm, and eat healthy. This will maintain the glow on your skin and purify your blood.
- Spotting or Light bleeding:
This occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the womb lining, and implantation occurs.
Signs of early pregnancy
Early signs are those signs which occur as early as in the first few weeks of conception. Missed period is considered as the first sign, but there are early signs as well, which occur before it. We have mentioned the complete set in the above section.
To be more defined in word expression, let us divide the signs in weeks.
WEEK 1: Week 1 does not show any dominant signs which may signal you towards your pregnancy. You may not even realise that you are pregnant in this time period. You cannot even check and get proper answers. The valid reason for this is that during the first week, the egg leaves the ovary and travels to the fallopian tube. The fertilisation is yet to occur. So, how can you even check for pregnancy when you don’t have a fertilised egg in your womb? The tests depend on HCG levels and HCG peaks after fertilisation. Not before.
There are many people who depend upon these tests and have the wrong information of taking the test so early. Wait for a valid symptom before taking a test.
Fatigue, irritation, burn-outs, mood swings and constant need to urinate are the few symptoms which may occur in the first week.
You can identify your beginning of pregnancy by monitoring the basal body temperature. It is the first physiological sign.
WEEK 2: The fertilisation has now taken place, and now the intensity and frequency of the signs shall increase. Your menstrual cycle won’t occur now for a time span of 9 months. You can now visit a doctor, and get health tips. The expected due date can also be determined. The little life is developing inside you. Prepare for his/her welcome.
Please take care of yourself and the little life inside you.
WEEK 3: There are not any significant signs now. Weight loss, nausea, vaginal discharge, loss of appetite and fatigue are the observed signs.
The upcoming weeks notice no significant signs and symptoms. The nausea and vomiting will haunt you for a few months. For more information, you can refer to “morning sickness” article of ours.
Signs of ectopic pregnancy
We know that the embryo after fertilisation get implanted into the uterus. If the implantation takes place other than the uterus, then the pregnancy is termed as ectopic pregnancy.
It is not as happening as the normal pregnancy. About 2% of the women have ectopic pregnancy, which may lead to fatal conclusions. Any other part is not made for implantation. This job goes to uterus only. Hence, the consequences are sometimes unwanted. The baby and the woman, both face danger.
Signs and symptoms of ectopic pregnancy arise as late as 8 weeks. But, in some lucky cases, the signs may be observed as in the normal one, for instance, missed period, morning sickness and fatigue.
The dangerous signs include:
- Nausea and vomiting along with heavy pain
- Pain in the lower abdomen and the pelvic region.
- Extreme stomach cramps
- You may also experience pain at only one side of the body.
- Weakness and fatigue.
- You may also faint if the region of implantation gets ruptured
- Shoulder and neck pain
- Light vaginal bleeding
Other signs and symptoms of pregnancy
There are extra signs and symptoms as well:
- Excessive saliva formation or you may experience the complete opposite, i.e., the dryness of mouth
- Weird dreams
- Back pain, particularly in the lower back.
- Nose bleeding or nasal congestions
- A burning hot feeling inside the throat.
- Or maybe you can experience like never before.
